idance® is happy to support Spread the Love Dance Project in Bringing Back Shabba — Doo to the UK.
We sincerely hope you are able to make it down for these workshops with an original member of the lockers!
First I am delighted to say that the Great Shabba-Doo is here in the UK at the invitation of idance. Why is this important? Almost everything we do in streetdance today is connected with a small group of people for the most part, 30–40 years ago, were having a great time living life. Little did they know they were creating a legacy of culture that today is near the very top of popular life. The incredible thing is many of these Pioneers are still alive today!
One of the key styles in streetdance is locking. Shabba-Doo is one of the original members of the amazing dance group the lockers who created the style. Additionally Shabba-Doo, the most famous streetdancer in history, created the role of ‘Ozone’ in iconic films Breakin’ (Breakdance in the UK) and Breakin’ 2 inspiring millions of dancers and would be dancers around the world.
Shabba-Doo went on to further inpire by being the choreographer and star of major Television shows broadcast around the world before going on to me Choreographer and Lead Dancer for Madonna’s record breaking and critically acclaimed ‘Who’s That Girl’ Tour.
You have the unprecedented opportunity to meet and learn original locking technique and the foundations of street dance from one of the original creators of the style… It’s like learning to write from the person who created the Alphabet.
We would like to run a class just for you at idance studios, Thursday night 7:15 to 8:30. We need a minimum of 20 students at £15 in order to run this class. The only other classes are in central London. There is also an opportunity for a semi-private or private session with Shabba-Doo. Attached is a link you can use to sign up.

The world’s most famous, prolific, and accomplished street dancer, award-winning choreographer, and star of Breakin’ and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo, Adolfo “Shabba-Doo” Quinones aka Ozone, is up in the place… The place of course, being London!
Shabba-Doo is an original, Soul Train Gang Member • Original, founding member of the legendary, 70s street-dance troupe of fame, The Lockers (there were only 7 members, see: www.thelockersdance.com), codifier and progenitor of the Waackin’ dance style.
With all attributes considered, Shabba-Doo is truly a street-dance icon, pioneer, and legend. We urge teachers and students alike to make Shabba-Doo’s workshop an essential part of your education. For one day only, learn the true technique and terminology of Locking, Shway Style (Waackin’), and Soul Power, “the foundational building blocks of soul dance” right here in London!
Shabba-Doo is part of a unique cadre of streetdance pioneers and the most successful streetdancer of all time. For his general lessons Shabba-Doo will take you through the true essence of the original dance styles including orgins and mood. Then once mastered Shabba-Doo will help you build on those style by showing the evolution to how it was performed and, in many cases, still performed today. Each lesson will conclude with a discussion on the history and orgin of the styles related to that class. A true information feast.

This is a unique opportunity to learn from Shabba-Doo while he makes a short stay in the UK to Judge the UK Hip Hop Dance Championships in Association with idance and Hip Hop International on the 4th and 5th of June at Thorpe Park.

WAACKIN’ SCHWAY STYLE 3D:
Shway or Waackin’ as it is commonly known was codified and popularized by Adolfo “Shabba-Doo” Quinones. Shabba-Doo began mixing, the super soul dance “Locking” with the ultra feminine gay dance “Garbo”, birthing a new strain and has since branded it as “Shway Style 3D” “Shway” means Shabba-Doo’s Way, “3D” means three levels of dance i.e. emotional, spiritual, and the practical.
SOUL POWER
Learn “the building blocks of soul,” from one of the Original Soul Train Gang, have fun doing the funky chicken or the sophisticated sissy, including other moves made popular on Soul Train, during the early 70s!
ORIGINAL LOCKIN’
Learn original locking techniques and its correct terminologies from a certified, original founding member of the legendary street-dance group, The Lockers.
