Exciting News!
I am excited to let everyone know about some important news regarding the UK and World Hip Hop Dance Championships.
The idance® UK Hip Hop Dance Championships, is run by dancers for dancers. idance® and Hip Hop International are always refining and improving our events to insure that the best crews get their due. As such we are always evaluating the impact of previous championships and we review the rules for the benefit of the dance community. We have some important updates!
Rules and Regulation Changes for 2012
There are no rule changes to the Junior, Varsity and Adult Divisions (5−8 crewmembers). The acceptance and the observance by the crews of the rule changes implemented this year at the 2011 World Hip Hop Dance Championship were considered key to increasing the amount of dance in the routines and decreasing the excessive tricks we were seeing in the past years.
There are just a few changes to the new MegaCrew Division (15−40 crewmembers).
One of the most exciting additions to HHI this year at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship was the new MegaCrew Division. HHI received many positive comments regarding the introduction of the MegaCrew Division.
Considering the above and the comments and recommendations we received following the first MegaCrew Championship, HHI has made the following changes to the MegaCrew Rules and Regulations for 2012:
1. Age – the MegaCrew Division will no longer have age limitations. There will not be separate age divisions as there are in Junior, Varsity and Adult crew competition (5−8 crewmembers).
2. Props – Props that are allowed are those that are small enough to be hand held, are an element of attire and/or are related to the theme or nature of the performance. Props that are placed on the stage, or laid to rest on the floor such as chairs, ladders, scenic elements, etc. are not permitted. The deduction for using props that are not permitted will rise from a .1 to 1.0. It is highly advised that crews choose carefully whether or not to use a prop and to make sure the prop meets the requirements of acceptability to avoid a high level deduction.
idance® and HHI acknowledges that the element of surprise that can be attributed to props may be valuable to the success of a routine. However, idance® and HHI strongly suggest when in doubt about whether a prop is acceptable or not it is best to email idance®. Questions of this nature will always be kept confidential.
3. Time (length of performance) – Beginning 2012 the performance time for all MegaCrew routines will decrease by 30 seconds. Therefore all MegaCrew routines are 3 minutes 30 seconds (03:30) with a grace period of plus or minus 30 seconds (:30)…so all MegaCrew performances must now be between 3 minutes (03:00) and 4 minutes (04:00).
We hope you are as excited as we are about these new changes.
